Before I ate one of those pears (it was deliciously juicy) I thought I would photograph the two Italian ceramic fruit bowls in my kitchen as they caught the morning light from the window above. It made me think of Paul Cezanne’s still life paintings but looking at them again I remembered how much I loved the uncluttered simplicity of his bowls of fruit and then I regretted not tidying the kitchen before I took my shot.

I wonder if, like me,  he used his lemon for a gin and tonic.

To keep with this mood of fruity late 19th. Century French art, here are Erik Satie’s  “Trois morceaux en forme de poire”  (Three pieces in the form of a pear) – he was being ironic of course because he’d been criticised for having no form in his music. It’s not true of course and Satie makes a perfect musical partner for Cezanne and for my bowl of fruit  – now much depleted.
