Before I ate one of those pears (it was deliciously juicy) I thought I would photograph the two Italian ceramic fruit bowls in my kitchen as they caught the morning light from the window above. It made me think of Paul Cezanne&#8217;s still life paintings but looking at them again I remembered how much I loved the uncluttered simplicity of his bowls of fruit and then I&nbsp;regretted not tidying the kitchen before I took my shot.</p>

To keep with this mood of fruity late 19th. Century French art, here are Erik Satie&#8217;s &nbsp;&#8220;Trois morceaux en forme de poire&#8221; &nbsp;(Three pieces in the form of a pear) &#8211; he was being ironic of course because he&#8217;d been criticised for having no form in his music. It&#8217;s not true of course and Satie makes a perfect musical partner for Cezanne and for my bowl of fruit &nbsp;&#8211; now much depleted.</p>
