I know the excitement has been building since I announced last December that my mother was about to finish the winter tea cosy just before her 100th birthday but, many apologies, I seem to have omitted sharing a photograph of her latest creation, the Winter 2014/2015 Cosy. I think you’ll agree that her designs are going from strength to strength now that she’s entered her 101st year.

In case you haven’t been following this saga, my mother has been designing seasonal tea cosies for me for a couple of years now because, let’s face it, you can’t have too many tea cosies. Now that we have two years worth, we can change them every new season rather like churches change their altar cloths. Above is the Autumn 2014 model and, below, the one for Summer 2014. She is now thinking about her design for Spring 2015. They should be collectors items but  they are all designer originals and I’m the only collector.

I knew it was summertime when I returned from my holidays in Venice. It was Midsummer’s day and therefore time to unveil my new seasonal tea cosy – the four times a year work of my mother who is now in her 100th year. She’s now at work on the Autumn cosy – no previews or peeping, you will have to wait until the 21st September.

Here’s my mother with four of her five grandsons – a photograph taken last Christmas. I’m not sure that I showed you her Christmas tea cosy. Maybe I should photograph them all some time. She is still a knitting genius.

Twelfth Night, the last breath of the Christmas season was fun this year even if this photograph of my own Twelfth Night debris is a sobering experience when looked at in the light of day. On the day after a feast such as this, my body cries out for a nice cup of tea.

Christmas is now packed away for another year and that includes the special Christmas tea cosy that is part of the set of seasonal tea cosies designed and knitted by my rather inventive mother. The Christmas one replaced the autumn cosy at the beginning of Advent but now it’s time for the winter cosy with it snowfall theme. In case you didn’t realize, a tea cosy is not a luxury, it is essential if you are to have that perfect cup of English tea. Clever stuff.
