A few romantic photos for Valentine’s Day – be warned: high sugar content but with a touch of acid.

Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer

On their wedding day, or so they say, the World watched in awe and with at least one or two tears as the marriage of the century, the great romance was solemnised in the great London cathedral of St Paul’s.  Charles and Diana, were the very symbol for Valentine’s Day and the answer to the prayers of that international league of marketing guys, florists, card manufacturers, chocolatiers, restauranteurs and their like. For every romantic couple though, there were a few lonely hearts wishing that they too could have their true valentine.

Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew
It was the same a few years later when another royal wedding gripped the world via television satellite link. Now the great romance was the wonderfully glamourous Prince Andrew and Sarah, Fergie, Ferguson.  So many people wished for a fairy-tale romance that could be made permanent with a similarly joyful wedding day.
Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones

Decades earlier there was yet another royal wedding and, wow, that was the envy of the World too….the Queen’s beautiful little sister Margaret, happily in love at last, to her Antony – the man she made a count.

Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown

Pop royalty too could thrill our hearts – Whitney and Bobby, were the perfect couple before the rot set in.

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston

The impossibly beautiful Brad and Jennifer showed us that even perfect people could find happiness…..

Madonna and Guy Ritchie

…Madonna,  who could have had anyone, fell for her ordinary Guy….

Paul McCartney and Heather Mills

..and old romantic Paul McCartney popped the question to Heather and fulfilled all her dreams and fantasies.

Arthur Miller and Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn found happiness at last with her clever but hardly handsome Arthur and hope was given not just to Marilyn but to every average guy who ever dreamed of getting a beautiful bride.

King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn

Another royal wedding, centuries ago, gave King Henry VIII not just a beautiful new wife but, slightly less romantically,  gave his nation the Church of England. For a brief moment in time, Anne had everything a girl needed.

Sonny and Cher

It was to be the immortal singing couple Sonny and Cher who would perform the song that sums up for each generation, the spirit of St Valentine. Their’s too was the perfect romance or so it seemed when they sang together.

I’m trying to cheer you up honestly, all you people out there feeling that this year’s Valentine’s Day might not have the promise of some of those famous romances, be warned and be careful for what you dream or you too might end up with a nasty big divorce.

Oh yes, and all the couples out there having a wonderful time today, congratulations.

This song is for everyone because it is what everyone wants whether they know it or not.
