Beans….no, not green beans….has beens….or might have beens……no, Java beans, coffee beans from Sumatra….doo-ba-doo-ba-doo. I love coffee, I love tea….and it loves me!
I love my super cool Krups coffee grinder too. In fact today, I just can’t get enough of it – doo-ba-doo-ba-doo. Waiter, waiter, percolator!
I love the smell of those Java beans as they spin away inside the machine with the little blue light that tells you all is going be just fine.
I love the smell even more when you pullout the little container with the perfectly ground coffee lying there tempting, tormenting, whispering about another world…..about life on the other side of that cup of coffee when the sun shines, when laughter returns, when every thing is possible once more. The first coffee of the day…doo-ba-doo-ba-doo.
I love the paraphernalia of addiction – it has to be admitted. I am never so controlled as when I am pouring the magic powder into the cafetiere, the wonder jug, whilst listening to the last boiling noises to settle down in the water kettle. I wouldn’t want to wreck the flavour at this crucial moment and you should never pour boiling water onto coffee beans.
Don’t you love it…look at that water setting the whole thing alive – doo-ba-doo-ba-doo. The smell just gets more intense – do-ba-doo-ba-doo.
I am never sure about what is my favourite moment when making coffee in the morning but mostly, I think it is this ….. the moment of detonation. Wham! Doo-ba-doo-ba-doo.
Four minutes later….the longest four minutes every day…. whilst the water and the beans get to know each other and, yes, fall in love …. then, doo-ba-doo, here it is.
cuppa-cuppa-cuppa-cuppa…doo-ba-doo-ba-doo! The wonder mug.
All I have to do now is bring it upstairs to the study for what is surely the best moment of every day but, if I am ever going to get that damned tune out of my head, doo-ba-doo-ba-doo, I will have to play The Ink Spots singing Java Jive in 1940. Perfect. Yeah!
