Lewes’ Brach Mound finally gets it haircut.

The beginning of a new week, the sun is shining and the temperatures have risen. It feels like a new season here in Lewes living here as I do next to the prehistoric Brach Mound. It felt doubly like the beginning of a new era too when these men in helmets appeared on the mound outside my study window.

As, the owners of the site, Sussex Archaeological Society promised, the mound is going to have its long overdue haircut after being allowed to grow out of control for two years as a (false) economy cut.

The men with their machines are doing a sterling job up there so far…

..and, by the look of it, today will see the end of that massive over-growth of sycamores, brambles and other invasive plants that turned Brach Mound last summer.
