I have been looking at some self-portraits by much better photographers than myself but I thought I would have a go so that I could see just how difficult it is to get a photograph that doesn’t look too posey or too self-concsious. I suspect I failed in the first one, taken today, and looking as if someone is about to shoot me but I definitely failed in the one below taken when I was a very moody teenager.
All next week I shall be showing some of my published poems in photographic form but here is a poem in moving images – my translation from the German of “Hyperion’s Song Of Fate” by Johann Christian Friedrich Hölderlin (1770 – 1843):
far too modest. it's a good photo.
